The new trend...cell phones !

Now, we are using modern ways of reaching people. Cell phones, text messages, conference calls, phone cards, emails, e-fax and many more became part of our lives these days.

Back then,
we would painstakingly write letters to our loved ones, near and far.  Sending telegrams and dialing thru rotary phones were normal and waiting for their replies that could go for months and months were acceptable.

Then :  we wrote our friends in complete sentences, cooked dinner at home after work, called long distance to Phil. and paid hundreds in bills and bought goodies for a minimum of 2 balikbayans which they liked back then.

Hey, high-tech na ako !!!
Hey, high-tech na ako !!!
Now :   we no longer use complete sentences, napalitan na ng "how r  u  na  ?  c   u   tomorrow !,   d2 na ako, dunno ! for don't know, we no longer cook, tamad na, let's just go to a Filipino restaurant or buy something "to go", and we no longer pay huge bills for long distance, ok na si phone card, si email at videocam.  Ok na din di magpadala ng balikbayan, ayaw na nila noon, pera na lang daw, meron naman sa Pinas ng same goodies, sila pa ang pipili  :) :)  :)

our group decided to form an organization to be called United Mindoro International, Inc.  Our means of communication back then were mailing hardcopies of notices and/or painfully tracking down with phone calls on unholy hours.   Di pa popular ang voicemails noon.  If we get lost on our way to our events, be it a meeting, picnic or party, sorry na lang because we did not have cell phones to use at that time.

Today, our members and their families still enjoy seeing each other in  various happenings. And thanks to modern technology, we are now able to reach our relatives and friends in Mindoro thru texting, emails, videocam and phone cards and most especially, using our cell phones if we get lost these days.

15 years ago, the kids who tagged along with us, played and joked with us.  They even posed for our cameras and playfully gave us a smiley face.

Today, they no longer want to be with us, the adults.  They now go their own separate ways as they are now old enough to hang out  with their own generation.  Parents still come to our gatherings but found themselves "by themselves" all the time.   Sign of the times....

15 years ago, the members were much younger.  They grabbed the chance to join games like volleyball, egg-racing, egg-throwing and trip to Jerusalem.  Their reflexes were all that good then, beating fellow kababayans during the parlor games.  And better yet, they still had the energy to play cards, mahjong or simply continue playing volleyball until the closing of the park.

Today, some members can no longer participate in parlor games as they continue to nurse their arthritis, back pain, muscle pain or just simply tired to join feeling "that old" already.  They feel happy with just chitchatting with our kababayans as they see themselves now as "Lolos and Lolas " these days.  Oh, what a feeling  :)
